Mary Kay Dennis Teteak
Miss Beloit 1960

Mary Kay began performing tap dance and acting programs at age 6, and also spent many years in lead, and supporting roles with Beloit Civic Theatre. Attending Beloit College, Layton School of Art, and later UW Madison, she chose an artist/writer advertising career in Beloit and New York. Following her year as Miss Beloit, she continued to be involved, coaching contestants, and writing/directing several pageants.  Mary Kay also wrote/directed events for the promotion of the city of Beloit.  Married, with a son and daughter, she joined a CBS TV affiliate as promotion manager.  When her husband took a UW football coaching position, Mary Kay donated a year to UW Children’s Hospital, painting huge whimsical characters on the walls.  Her dream of using the arts as a tool to develop positive self images in children led to her opening The Mary Kay Creative Pre-School, also with classes for school age children.  Housed in a historic farmhouse, she also opened The Calico Farm Gift shop, where she and her employees created many of the arts and craft items sold there.  For seventeen years hundreds of children attended this unique school.  Now retired, her children married, and two grandsons to give her joy, Mary Kay is a published poet, and continues to create her art, including painting an angel on her kitchen ceiling.
